His Eminence Kyabje Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche
His Eminence Kyabje Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche was born in Yara Kham, Eastern Tibet in the year 1927.
In 1944, Rinpoche joined the Gaden Shartse Monastery in Tibet when he was 16 years old. Rinpoche undertook Buddhist studies under many great Masters such as Geshe Lobsang Rinpoche, Geshe Lobsang Palden, Geshe Chopel and Lati Rinpoche, Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, Kyabje Trichang Rinpoche, H.H. Dalai Lama
In 1947, Rinpoche received the Bikkhu Ordination from Tatak Rinpoche and became a fully ordained monk. In 1958, in the main Gaden Prayer hall in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and many other great scholars, he challenged Geshe Newang Ysongdu and won the Tshoklang debate competition. He was a highly recognized student in the five areas of Buddhist studies i.e. Pramana -Vidya- Valid Logic, Prajna Paramita -Perfection of Wisdom, Madyamika -Middle way Philosopy, Abhidahrmakosha Treasury of Knowledge, and Vinaya -Moral Ethic law.
In 1959, during the Chinese Invasion, He fled to India to Buxa, the first Tibetan Refugee Settlement located in north-east India, following His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Khensur Rinpoche relentlessly continued his studies and giving teachings to all the refugee monks.
In 1965 under the guidance of Zong Rinpoche, Rinpoche together with all the senior scholars of all the sects was invited by H H the Dalai Lama to receive Rigney, an extensive grammer, poetry teaching from His Excellency, Khunu Lama Rinpoche. In 1971 Khensur Rinpoche obtained Acharya Degree from the Tibetan Buddhist Institute at Varanasi. In the same year, during the grand prayer festival, in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and many senior lamas, Rinpoche was conferred the Lharam Geshe Degree (equivalent to Doctorate Degree). Shortly after of the title, Rinpoche left for Gyuto Tantric University India to undergo Tantric studies in rituals and philosophy.
In 1977 Rinpoche was appointed as a disciplinary master of the Tantric University. He remained with His teacher, Zong Rinpoche until his resignation as a discipline master in 1978, to rejoin His beloved Gaden Monastery, where He continued to teach the dedicated monks; managing monastic policy and discipline.
Rinpoche was appointed the Abbot of the Gaden Shartse Monastery in 1984 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Khensur Rinpoche was a renowned great Dharma Scholar and highly realized meditation master. Khensur Rinpoche has devoted the nearly 60 years of his life solely to learn and teach Buddha Dharma and mediation to younger monks. After 7 years of Abbotship in Gaden Shartse Monastery, Rinpoche sought approval from His Holiness for his resignation to go into permanent retreat but His Holiness advised him to remain and pursue his monastic teaching at the Monastery. The academic excellence grew tremendously under the abbotship of Khensur Rinpoche.
In 1991, he built his own Ladrang under the name of Phuntsho Choling where Rinpoche continues to give initiations and teachings to the monks there while acting as an advisor to the Monastery.
